The New Ucluelet Aquarium

I am absolutely thrilled to tell you that today was the first day, that the New Amazing Ucluelet Aquarium was open for all locals to step inside for a sneak preview of the finished product we have have been anxiously awaiting. It is a hands on Aquarium with many tanks open and waiting for you to step outside of your comfort zone and touch the sealife that has all been harvested from our local waters. For myself, this is wonderful as I will probably never go diving or snorkling.  There is a huge touch tank with schools of local fish, another one with an Octopus lazily sleeping after feasting on some Dungeness Crab. There is another tank sitting empty waiting for some jelly fish–that will be pretty exciting! There are comfy chairs looking out over the Inner harbour and beyond down the Inlet.  Just waiting for a spectacular sunset would hypnotize me into sitting here for hours. There are Arts and Crafts for kids, there are knitted sea creatures for sale as well as yearly memberships!

The other reason I am  extremely excited about the Aquarium Opening  is that it is going to host Events such as small Wedding Receptions. The smaller tanks will be hidden under banquet tables as they prefer to be dark at night anyway. The Room overlooking the stunning West Coast Inlet will be transformed into a Venue able to host about 60 for that Special Occasion whether it be a Cocktail Reception or an Elegant Wedding Reception with candles and music. Thank you to all of  the Aquarium Directors and Volunteers who have spent many many hours working on raising funds, filling in Grant Applications and for fulfilling a vision that will bring smiles to many visitors and locals alike. I am sure that I can speak for all West Coast Residents when I say Thank You , we are very grateful for all of your energy and hard work and I will be purchasing my membership on your official Opening day of June 1st, 2012.
